Air transport analysis by Christian Sivière, Import Export Logistics Solutions, Montréal
Passenger traffic growth slows in June, while air cargo remains flat
IATA (the International Air Transport Association, Geneva/Montréal) recently announced their June worldwide air traffic statistics, showing a slight softening in volumes. Passenger demand was up by only 4.4%, while freight demand was 3% lower, compared to June 2010.
The trend for passenger travel remains upwards, but at a slower pace, reflecting slower economic growth and increased fuel prices. Freight volumes have not grown since July-August 2010. World trade is expanding but the benefits are being realized by modes of transport other than air cargo.
